Most watches have an accuracy ratio of plus/minus 5 seconds per month, which comes to roughly 3 minutes per year. This ratio has been mostly unchanged since the 1970s.
Citizen has some watches that are accurate to plus/minus 15 seconds per year. This company, largest watchmaker in the world, also makes watches that don't use batteries. These substitute a tiny solar panel for the messy and, over the watches lifetime, costly batteries. While not the most accurate, they are still better than industry standards!
